Health Technician (Hearing) Green Bay, WI Duties: This Health Technician (Hearing) position is part of the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical center located in the Northeast Wisconsin Outpatient Clinic in Green Bay, WI. The Health Technician functions as a highly skilled member of the staff and provides clinical and administrative support. Major Duties: -Performs air conduction threshold audiograms for occupational hearing conservation programs for employees -Conducts routine video-otoscopy for examination of abrasion, pressure sores, and cerumen impaction in ear canals that may be inhibiting hearing aid use -Enters audiogram pure tones, speech test results, immittance test results and other data into various programs -Makes impressions of the ear canal for earmolds or custom in-the-ear hearing aids -Assists veterans in obtaining hearing aid registration and serves as a resource for routine inquiries regarding use and care -Determines the patients need for loaner hearing aids -Provides hearing aid follow up information and assistance for post hearing aid fittings -Maintains adequate stock levels of disposable supplies and hearing aid inventory and coordinating whereabouts of lost/repaired instruments -Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: 1 st shift days, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Health Technician (Hearing) xxxx8A Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Qualifications & Evaluations To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience : Must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques related to the position. Specialized experience includes, but is not limited to: general knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the auditory system and the ability to differentiate normal from abnormal conditions of the outer ear, canal, and tympanic membrane through the use of an otoscope and/or video otoscope; basic knowledge of acoustics; basic knowledge of various hearing loss pathologies sufficient to conduct a needs assessment and make appropriate referrals; knowledge of various prosthetic devices designed for the hearing impaired as well as strategies for patient education sufficient to instruct/reinforce the use of devices with the patients individually or in a small group setting; knowledge of hearing audiometric testing methodologies sufficient to screen employees for yearly screening exams; ability to independently remove cerumen in accordance with policy and procedures, using irrigation, suction, or instrument removal; skill in the setup, use, and routine maintenance of clinical tools; and skill in using a variety of computer programs. *A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. OR Education : Must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR Combination : Must possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Combining Education and Experience: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (i.e. 30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
